Karachi: In a historic first for the country, a passenger aircraft is being transported by road from one city to another. Sources indicate that the aircraft is being moved from Karachi to Hyderabad, marking the first operation of its kind in Pakistan’s history.
A specialized truck and trailer are being utilized for the transfer, with plans to house the aircraft at the Civil Aviation Training Institute in Hyderabad. The aircraft will be used for training purposes.
Transporter Humayun Khalid revealed that the aircraft is a non-functional Boeing 737, measuring 110 feet in length and weighing 40 tons, with the capacity to carry 240 passengers.
According to Khalid, the aircraft was moved from the airport to the Super Highway late at night, from where it is now being transported to Hyderabad.
In addition, the motorway police have stated that the aircraft is being transferred under strict protocol. There will be no blockage of the motorway during the transfer, and the vehicle will be driven along the roadside. Personnel from civil aviation and the private transport company will be present throughout the operation.
