Pakistan Railways to Build 105km Rail Line Linking Thar Coal Mines to Port Qasim by October 2025

Pakistan Railways is all set to construct a 105-kilometer-long railway line connecting Thar Coal Mines to Port Qasim, with completion expected by October 2025. This ambitious project aims to boost transportation capacity, reduce costs, and support national economic growth by providing an efficient coal transportation system.

The rail link, extending from Islamkot to Chhor, will enable the efficient movement of coal, directly benefiting industries such as cement and textiles by offering a cost-effective alternative fuel source. This initiative will significantly contribute to Pakistan’s industrial growth by ensuring a stable supply of affordable energy resources.

Jointly funded by the Sindh and Federal Governments, this project marks a key milestone in improving Pakistan’s infrastructure and reducing logistic expenses across the country. It aligns with the government’s broader vision of facilitating economic progress and enhancing connectivity within critical industrial sectors.

Beyond industrial benefits, the railway line is expected to bolster economic activity, improve job creation, and attract further investment into the energy and transportation sectors. The improved logistical network will also help reduce dependency on road transport, leading to a reduction in overall fuel costs and carbon emissions.

This development comes as part of Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure growth, with a focus on renewable and low-cost energy solutions. The Islamkot-Chhor railway line will play a crucial role in achieving these goals, ensuring the efficient transport of coal to Port Qasim for export and domestic use.

As Pakistan moves toward infrastructure modernization, this rail project signifies a step forward in meeting the energy and economic needs of the country. The completion of the project by 2025 will undoubtedly strengthen the nation’s industrial backbone and pave the way for enhanced trade opportunities.
