Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad and met with the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his condolences over the terrorist attack on a Chinese convoy in Karachi and offered his sympathies for the Chinese nationals who lost their lives in the incident.
The Prime Minister stated that the government is fully active in identifying those responsible for the attack and vowed that they will be swiftly brought to justice. He emphasized that the safety and security of Chinese nationals in Pakistan is a top priority and that any malicious attempt to harm the strong relations between Pakistan and China will not be tolerated.
He further announced that he will personally oversee the investigation into the incident and that security measures for foreign nationals will be strengthened.
The Chinese Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for the swift response by the Pakistani government and the immediate start of the investigation. He also conveyed confidence in Pakistan’s ability to conduct an effective investigation and ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable. He added that he hopes the culprits will be punished without delay.
It is worth mentioning that a day earlier, a convoy of Chinese citizens was attacked near Karachi airport, resulting in the deaths of two Chinese nationals and one other person, with 17 others injured.
