The UK is moving closer to becoming a global AI superpower. Investments worth over £31bn have been pledged by Microsoft, Nvidia, Google, and OpenAI.
Microsoft announced a record $30bn (£22bn) commitment, its largest outside the US. Nvidia partnered with Nscale to build data centres, while Google pledged £5bn for AI research. A new supercomputer in Essex will also be developed.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the agreement would create thousands of skilled jobs and drive growth nationwide. A new AI growth zone in Northumberland is expected to provide 5,000+ jobs and attract billions in private investment.
According to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, the UK has expertise but lacks infrastructure. He stated that Nvidia would help build the missing foundation. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella compared AI’s rise to the personal computer revolution and predicted economic benefits within five years.
The Tech Prosperity Deal was signed during President Donald Trump’s visit to the UK. The agreement has been designed to strengthen cooperation in AI, quantum computing, and nuclear power.
With billions being invested, the UK is being positioned at the heart of the global AI race, ready to shape the future of technology.
