Pakistan and Qatar cooperation is set to expand after a high-level meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha. The two leaders agreed to strengthen bilateral collaboration in political, economic, and cultural sectors.


Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

During the meeting, President Zardari proposed deeper cooperation in defence and defence production. The Amir welcomed this proposal and directed officials to begin talks immediately. The president also called for new initiatives in agriculture and food security, aiming to boost mutual benefits for both nations.


Qatar’s Praise for Pakistan

The Amir of Qatar praised Pakistan’s achievements and the role of the Pakistani community in Qatar’s development. He expressed hope to see the Pakistani workforce grow further in the coming years, acknowledging their dedication and skill.

Both leaders reaffirmed the historic Pakistan Qatar cooperation, built on faith, trust, and shared goals for peace and prosperity in the Muslim world. President Zardari conveyed greetings from the Government and people of Pakistan, appreciating Qatar’s remarkable progress under Sheikh Tamim’s leadership.


Support for Peace and Humanitarian Efforts

The president lauded Qatar’s role in humanitarian diplomacy, especially in promoting dialogue and peace in Gaza. He praised the Amir’s leadership in advocating a ceasefire and humanitarian relief for Palestinians.

Pakistan reaffirmed its solidarity with Qatar, condemning aggression against the Gulf nation and supporting its sovereignty in international forums.


Defence and Strategic Partnerships

The Amir of Qatar welcomed the recent Pakistan–Saudi Arabia defence agreement, calling it a timely and important move. He highlighted Pakistan’s unique position of maintaining strategic partnerships with China, the West, and the Gulf states simultaneously.


Encouraging Qatari Investment in Pakistan

President Zardari welcomed more Qatari investment in Pakistan. He expressed confidence that mutual trade and collaboration would grow under both nations’ leadership. He also appreciated the role of the Qatar Fund for Development and the Education Above All Foundation for supporting humanitarian and educational projects in Pakistan.


Recognition of Qatari Humanitarian Initiatives

The president paid tribute to Sheikha Moza bint Nasser and Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani for their efforts in promoting education and culture. Their initiatives continue to strengthen ties between the two nations.


Doha Process and Regional Peace

President Zardari also commended Qatar’s contribution to the UN-led Doha Process on Afghanistan, which supports international dialogue on humanitarian, development, and security issues. The Amir hoped that Pakistan and Afghanistan would resolve their challenges and restore friendly ties.


Future Visit and Strengthened Relations

In conclusion, President Zardari invited the Amir of Qatar to visit Pakistan to further enhance Pakistan Qatar cooperation. The Amir accepted the invitation and confirmed he would visit early next year.

The meeting was attended by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar, marking another milestone in Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach to the Gulf region.
