Funds Distributed to Right-Holder Communities

The Central Karakoram National Park took a major step. The CKNP Directorate distributed substantial funds. Cheques totaling Rs 24.910 million were handed out. This was part of the Waste Management Fee initiative. A ceremony was held in Shigar for the distribution. The funds benefit five specific right-holder communities. These are Braldu, Hushey, Arundu, Hisper, and Minapin.

Incentivizing Cleanliness on Trekking Routes

The Braldu community received the largest share by far. They were awarded Rs 19.5 million of the total amount. Braldu sits along key trekking routes. These routes attract many climbers and tourists. This financial support rewards community contributions. It encourages the preservation of natural resources strongly.

Promoting Sustainable Co-Management

CKNP Director Raja Abid Ali addressed the ceremony. Ecologist Syed Yasir Abbas Rizvi also spoke about the plan. They detailed the Fee’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The officials stressed the need for joint management efforts. Cleanliness is paramount in the high-altitude areas. This includes trails, camps, and critical glaciers. The CKNP Waste Management Fee proves this commitment.

Local Leaders Applaud Financial Support

Community organization representatives expressed gratitude. Groups like Braldu CBO appreciated the share. They received the 20% share for years 2022 and 2023. This financial aid bolsters their ongoing efforts. They work to protect and manage their environment locally. Rizvi announced that the 2024 share is coming soon. This will further enhance local conservation capacity. Attendees praised the sustainable co-management system. CKNP sets a precedent for effective strategies.
