Details of the Maintenance Package

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency confirmed the details. Pakistan has about 70 to 80 operational F-16s. The package includes hardware and software updates. It will enhance flight operations and electronic systems. It also provides the Advanced Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system. Navigation upgrades and spare parts are authorized. The support totals $649 million for the F-16s.
Major Equipment and Technology
The sale includes Major Defense Equipment (MDE) worth $37 million. This consists of 92 Link-16 systems. Link-16 is a secure tactical data network. It allows real-time communication between forces. The deal also authorizes six Mk-82 inert bomb casings. These metal casings are for training and testing. They are filled with concrete or sand, not explosives.
