On November 7, 2024, a high-profile delegation from the World Bank, led by Ms. Vyjayanti T. Desai, Practice Manager for Digital Development in the South Asia Region, visited the headquarters of Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to discuss advancements in digital development. This meeting focused on the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP), an initiative supported by the World Bank to promote economic growth and digital transformation in Pakistan.

The Chairman of NADRA briefed the delegation on DEEP’s progress, highlighting efforts to build and implement Pakistan’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). As part of DEEP, NADRA is working on initiatives to define secure information mechanisms, streamline digital identity, and encourage widespread adoption of digital systems. These developments aim to enhance citizens’ access to essential services, foster economic growth, and strengthen Pakistan’s digital ecosystem.

Ms. Desai and the World Bank team, including senior representatives from U.S. and Pakistan offices, commended NADRA’s efforts in advancing these key digital initiatives. The DEEP project, made possible with financial support from the World Bank, underscores the significance of a robust digital economy and sustainable development for Pakistan.
