Physical Remand Plea Denied by Islamabad ATC
Judge Orders Judicial Custody
The Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) rejected a police plea. The request sought further physical remand. This applied to Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan. They are sisters of the PTI founder. Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra sent them to jail instead. They were placed on judicial remand immediately. This key decision concludes the recent custody period.
Video Playback Request Dismissed
Defense lawyer Usman Gill requested playing video footage. This footage was contained on a USB drive. The lawyer argued the footage was crucial evidence. He claimed his arguments relied on the contents entirely. Judge Sipra rejected the request to play the video. The court stated it would rely on the USB record instead. The Judge asked if the USB was given to the police. This focused on proper evidence handling.
Prosecutor’s Recovery Claims Questioned
Judge Sipra closely questioned the prosecution. He asked Prosecutor Raja Naveed why more remand was needed. “What did you recover in 8 days?” the Judge questioned. The prosecutor requested more time for remand. He claimed they needed to recover explosives. He specifically sought gunpowder and explosives from the sisters. The Judge warned that remand must be justified by records. Aleema Uzma Khan Remand proceedings were highly scrutinized.
Bail Application Filed Immediately
Aleema Khan was briefly allowed to speak. She told the Judge, “we only want justice.” Following the ruling, the defense filed a bail application. This occurred immediately in the Anti-Terrorism Court. The court requested records from the prosecution on October 19. Arguments on the bail plea are also scheduled for October 19. A brief exchange occurred when police tried to move the sisters. Judge Sipra allowed the sisters to meet their families beforehand.
