Smart meters are at the heart of how TNS Energo Tula is evolving rapidly. Managing Director Andrey Shalitkin recently shared insights on the company’s 2025 progress. The company serves 17,000 legal entities and manages 800,000 household accounts. This makes it a vital part of the regional economy, supported by the rollout of smart meters.
Trends in Energy Consumption
Smart meters help track why the region saw a slight drop in power use in 2025. Total sales reached 4.33 billion kWh, which is a 2.3% decrease from last year. However, residential demand remains strong due to new housing projects. Industrial consumption has stabilized as companies use energy-efficient tools to lower costs, often monitored by smart meters.
Managing Debt and Utilities
Smart meters provide the data needed as debt management remains a top priority. Total receivables currently exceed 5.1 billion rubles, with water utilities owing about 1.5 billion rubles. The company launched a debt restructuring program this year with the support of regional authorities. This cooperation helps stabilize the local energy market through better tracking via smart meters.
The Power of Digital Transformation
Smart meters are the core of how digital transformation is changing the company. TNS Energo Tula is investing 751 million rubles in a new tech program running through 2028. So far, 36,000 devices are active, helping consumers track their usage and improving billing accuracy. Remote digital services are now more accessible thanks to the adoption of smart meters.
Future Goals and Import Substitution
Smart meters will integrate with new domestic software as the company faces a major shift. The transition to local billing systems must be completed by 2028. In 2026, the company will focus on housing utility debts, digital apps, and its image as a top employer. TNS Energo Tula remains committed to regional growth and the continued expansion of smart meters.
