CM Maryam Announces Basant Festival in Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a Basant Festival in Punjab from February 6 to 8.
She clearly stated that citizens deserve joy and cultural freedom.
Therefore, the provincial government decided to restore traditional celebrations.

Moreover, Maryam Nawaz said Punjab belongs to everyone.
People of all religions can celebrate their festivals freely.
As a result, the government wants harmony and happiness across the province.

Basant Festival and Punjab’s Cultural Identity

Basant represents Punjab’s cultural pride and history.
According to historians, the festival began nearly 800 years ago.
Therefore, it holds deep emotional value for the people.

Furthermore, Maryam Nawaz said past governments removed joy from society.
They replaced happiness with fear and restrictions.
However, the current administration aims to reverse this mindset.

Government-Organized Basant with Safety Measures

This year, the government will officially organize the Basant Festival in Punjab.
Authorities prepared a detailed safety plan in advance.
As part of this plan, officials divided Lahore into red, yellow, and green zones.

In addition, only cotton kite strings with nine threads will be allowed.
Authorities strictly banned nylon and metallic strings.
Similarly, oversized kites and guddas will remain prohibited.

Legal Action Against Violations

The government registered more than 2,150 traders and manufacturers.
Meanwhile, authorities seized over 27,000 illegal kites.
They also arrested hundreds of violators.

Moreover, anyone using banned kite strings will face strict punishment.
Courts may impose prison sentences up to five years.
Heavy fines of up to Rs5 million can also apply.

Free Transport and Traffic Control Plan

To ensure safety, the government announced free public transport.
Therefore, Orange Line, Metro Bus, and electric buses will operate free.
Additionally, 500 buses and 6,000 rickshaws will provide rides.

As a result, fewer people will use motorcycles.
This step will significantly reduce accident risks.

Surveillance, Emergency Services, and Public Appeal

Authorities activated control rooms at Safe City Authority offices.
They will monitor the festival using CCTV cameras and drones.
Meanwhile, police, rescue, and health teams will stay alert.

Finally, Maryam Nawaz urged citizens to ignore rumors.
She emphasized that Basant celebrates joy, not danger.
The festival will officially begin on the night of February 6.
